The Board of Public Works is the utility entity of the Bamberg municipal government, separate from the City of Bamberg and governed by a three-person commission. The primary mission of the Board of Public Works is to provide customers with reliable water, wastewater, electric, and natural gas utilities at reasonable and competitive rates.
The Public Utility Billing division is responsible for all activities related to accurately generating and collecting all utility bills for City customers. The meter readers read all-electric, gas, and water meters and connect and disconnect services, as necessary. The customer service personnel are responsible for explaining billing questions, establishing new accounts, and generating work orders for field crews.

It was the late 1940's or early 1950's when the Federal Power Commission allocated a portion of the natural gas that flowed through the Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Company to the municipalities of Clinton and Newberry. This pipeline ran through northwestern South Carolina. Established in July 1954 as a municipal enterprise pursuant to the Federal Power Commission Order of December 11, 1953, the goal is to provide natural gas service to Fountain Inn and Simpsonville residents, area businesses and industries.
Formed in 1998, Frontier Natural Gas is a North Carolina limited liability company dedicated to providing safe, reliable natural gas service to residential, commercial, and municipal customers in Surry, Yadkin, Wilkes, Watauga, Ashe, and Warren Counties.
